Competitions - Club, Area and National

If you wish to enter any competition please speak to your Sensei in order to ensure that the event in question is suitable for you.  In order to provide a guide, you will find that each event has a 'level' awarded to it where '1' is for the easiest and '5' for the hardest.  These numbers are a guide, as always, the actual difficulty is governed by those who choose to enter.  Please provide your details to your Sensei who will enter you along with the other club members.  The forms available on this section are for your information.  We would prefer if you register through the club as registering directly creates extra work for your Sensei

Kata is a demonstration of 'form' (direct translation of the word) or technique.  There is no contest.  The demonstrations are assessed on a number of principles including accuracy of movement, precision of the technique, correct demonstration of all relevant elements (Kuzushi, Tsurkuri, Kake and Kime).  If one were to compare this to equine events, it would be the dressage.

TeamBJC National Squad Training Sessions

These sessions take place six times a year and are intense one day events that require a high level of physical fitness.  They are aimed at improving the performance of attending Judoka with a view to producing a team ready to compete in international events that the BJC enter.  The entry requirements are nominally that one must have gained a medal at one of the three National events (BJC Open Nationals, in May, BJC Regionals, in September and the BJC Closed Nationals in November) however, the course is open to anyone with the approval of your Sensei.

Weight Adjustment

Attempting to lose weight for a competition is not a good idea. If you lose to much weight you will find it hard to compete because you will be:

- Lacking in stamina (you will not have enough energy to keep you going)

- Lacking in strength (you will risk losing muscle)

- Dehydrated (you will not have enough water to sweat and risk passing out from overheating)

If you have any concerns about your weight please discuss with your Sensei's prior to taking any action. We do NOT condone dieting it order to enter a lower weight group.
